Why Wired Young
Real tools.
Real skills.
Earlier.
Kids start sports, music and art young and build on them year after year. Trade skills deserve the same head start. Wired Young gives kids 8–12 early exposure to real tools and practical skills, in small, supervised workshops led by a California licensed C-10 electrical contractor with 25+ years in the trade.
Hands-on learning comes first. Each workshop combines real tools, real materials, and age-appropriate instruction in a jobsite-inspired environment designed to build confidence and curiosity with every skill. Printed activities may be incorporated when they support the lesson. Each workshop is a foundation for the next, with more sessions and enrichment opportunities planned as the program grows.
Our mission
To give kids early, hands-on exposure to the trades in a safe, encouraging, age-appropriate environment — helping them build confidence, curiosity, and real-world skills they can carry into adulthood.
What we're building
More than one workshop.
Wired Young is growing into more than one workshop. Our vision is to create ongoing hands-on enrichment opportunities for kids — from single-day workshops to future multi-session programs and, eventually, homeschool-style semester courses that help kids build practical trade skills over time.
- TodaySingle-day workshopsHands-on introductions to a trade, starting with electrical.

What we teach
Skills that build on each other.
Every Wired Young workshop is built around the same foundations, so kids keep adding to what they know each time they come back.

- Safety + good habitsBuilding an early understanding of PPE, awareness, following instructions, and respecting the work environment.
- Measuring + hands-on skillsDeveloping practical skills through measuring, marking, cutting, assembling, bending, and working with real materials in age-appropriate ways.
- How things workIntroducing kids to electrical and trade concepts in a way that builds curiosity about the systems and materials around them.
- Confidence through doingGiving kids the chance to try, problem-solve, make mistakes, and become more comfortable working with their hands.

FAQ
Good questions.
Does my child need any experience?
None. The workshop starts from zero: what each tool is, how to hold it and how to stay safe. Curiosity is the only requirement.
Is it safe for an 8-year-old to use real tools?
Every activity is chosen to be age-appropriate and is supervised by adults, led by a California licensed C-10 electrical contractor with 25+ years of hands-on experience. Kids wear safety glasses and learn how to handle each tool before they use it.
Can I stay and watch?
Yes. This first Wired Young workshop is not a drop-off event. One parent or legal guardian must remain on site for the full duration of the workshop.
A designated parent seating area will be available, and for this event we'll also have an arcade vendor on site plus a mobile coffee cart with coffee and drinks available for purchase.

Trades aren't a backup plan. They're a foundation.
The founders
Joe + Samantha Ramirez
Family-owned · Third-generation trade roots · 25+ years of electrical experience
Joe Ramirez is a California licensed C-10 electrical contractor, third-generation electrician, and owner of illectric, Inc. With more than 25 years in the electrical industry, his experience was built hands-on — learning the trade, solving problems in the field, and developing the craftsmanship and work ethic that continue to shape illectric today.
His wife, Samantha Ramirez, helps run illectric alongside him, overseeing operations, marketing, content, and brand partnerships. Together, they've built a family-owned business rooted in hands-on work, family, and creating something their children can learn from and be part of.
Wired Young started with a question Samantha kept coming back to: why do kids have to wait until high school to start learning real trade skills?
As a homeschool family raising four children — with their three younger kids already showing an interest in the trades — Joe and Samantha realized there was a gap. Kids can start sports, music, art, and other skills young and build on them year after year. Why shouldn't hands-on trade skills have that same opportunity?
Wired Young was created to give kids earlier exposure to real tools, practical skills, and the electrical trade in a safe, supervised, age-appropriate environment. The goal isn't to rush kids into a career. It's to give them a foundation they can continue building on as they grow — so they enter adulthood with confidence, practical knowledge, and skills already under their belt.
Build the foundation. Spark the curiosity.
